FOR Lovely engine, solid dynamics, easy to use
AGAINST No wild child, acts too much like bigger siblings
This is a car with a visible and fizzy history. Long bonnet, stubby bootlid, abbreviated cabin, bluff nose, arch extensions on its arch extensions. You don’t have too look hard to see 2002 Turbo, 1-Series M, and M2. So I’m hoping for something taut, sharp, a little bit hod-roddy.
What I’m getting is a properly good car, but not that. Instead it feels very much like an M440i xDrive Coupe. But if I had been paying attention to BMW badges rather than BMW history, that’s where I should have set my expectations. This is the M240i xDrive Coupe. It exchanges just one character, a 2 for a 4.
