Six people (four children, two adults). That means 12 skis, 12 poles, six helmets, 12 boots, 12 gloves, plus three rucksacks and an assortment of bulky jackets, daily spares, snacks, goggles and – luckily – one snow shovel (you can probably guess why).
Firstly, speaking as a parent, that’s a lot of kit to go missing. Secondly, also speaking as a parent, that’s a lot of kit to get in a car. But our new S-Max is big. I know Ford pretends it’s svelte, but there’s up to 2,200 litres of space out back, and, more pertinently for my purposes, 130cm kids’ skis fit diagonally across the load bay.
