Just as we wonder what to adorn with our Turandot olive oil (see above), Lidl invites us to stay in the kitchen a little longer. Swedish branches of the supermarket are, we learn, now stocking fruit and veg that has been grown to the sound of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, with sound systems installed at over 25,000 square metres of farmland across the country so that carrots, cucumbers, cabbages and all can ripen in the company of Sibelius, Strauss and co. There is, says Lidl, solid evidence as to why such a practice is beneficial, though as a spokesman adds, ‘It’s also incredibly fun to offer philharmonic fruit and vegetables.
