”I adore wild native plants, as well as straight lines, so the planting is loose and free, but set in a rigid modern structure” When we moved to our house 16 years ago, the garden was stuck in the 1970s with a lawn, large conifer beds and old Californian brick walls. It’s just under an acre, with the house in the centre of the plot. It needed to be both functional and beautiful, a place where I could play with plants, colour, texture and plant combinations and, of course, it had to be accessible. We are surrounded by fields, with several mature trees (oak, sycamore, yew, silver birch and blue spruce) on a gentle incline. But we had to work within a limited budget.
