Sunflowers. We know all about them, right? Big, bright-yellow daisies, knee-high, as tall as you or maybe as high as the house. Big seeds, easy to grow. Well, if that’s what you think, then it’s time to think again…
First of all, there’s more to sunflowers than the colour yellow – set aside, of course, the double pink-flowered ones that pop up on Facebook, which are created on the computer, not by the seed company. Sunflowers now come in cream, orange, maroon, purple and an almost chocolate black, as well as in fiery bicolours – and there’s even one for cutting, ‘Sun Fill’, that doesn’t have any petals at all.
