1. Kim and Carrots: When you give toddlers balls to play with, you also give them opportunities to exercise both mind and body. Kim is catching concepts of color, shape, motion, and location right along with that ball. You and your child can think up many ways to play with balls.
■ Indoors, your child can roll one under a row of chairs, into a box or laundry basket, at some empty milk cartons, and, of course, back-and-forth with you.
■ Don’t forget to try balls of varying sizes and weights.
Throwing a firm rubber ball is a distinctly different experience than throwing a beach ball.
