As with the Paris Olympics, the United States topped the medals table at the World Masters Championships which took place in Gothenburg from August 13-25 with 110 gold, 73 silver and 63 bronze. Germany (79, 66, 58) and Great Britain (70, 60, 57) completed the top three ahead of hosts Sweden (60, 46, 68). This meant the British team won an incredible 187 medals - a significant achievement, with many medal hopes absent or injured.
However, the multiple gold medal-winning performances of the likes of Evaun Williams, John Wright, Kathleen Stewart, Sarah Roberts, Mark Symes, Andrew Ridley, Karen Brooks, Ian Broadhurst, Ellie Stevens, Peter Giles and Moira West were exceptional.
