In 2015 a group of amateur astronomers and science enthusiasts, coordinated by Garry Copper, Leigh Tschirpig and Phil Betts, met and decided to form an astronomy group in Tamworth in northern NSW. At the time, Garry commented he had been waiting 30 years for this to happen!
The group was soon joined by Stuart Goff, Lindsay Lowe, Michael McHugh, Barry Gilbert, Matt Dodds, Raymond McLaren, Ray Hare, Warwick and Margie Schofield and others. The Tamworth Regional Astronomy Club (TRAC) became an incorporated organisation in early 2016 and, as the membership quickly grew, so did the Club’s extraordinary collection of assets.
