On January 27, in torrential rain, Sydney Observatory's East Dome was launched by Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) Director Rose Hiscock, President of the Board of Trustees Professor John Shine, and Minister for Disability Services, the Hon John Ajaka MLC.
Despite the rain, 80 guests and media attended the opening, including: eminent astronomer and ground breaking astrophotographer, David Malin; University of Sydney astronomers Professors Anne Green and Elaine Sadler; Astronomer-in-charge of the Australian Astronomical Observatory, Fred Watson; ESA engineer Warrick Holmes; UNSW Professor Michael Burton and University of Western Sydney Assoc. Professor Miroslav Filipovic. Star measurer and computer, Winsome Bellamy, and former Sydney Observatory director Harley Wood’s daughter, Ros Madden, were present.
