Woodpecker Model Railways
The next installment in our tour of hobby shops, Woodpecker Model Railways, has been in the same shop in Pendle Hill (Western Sydney) since the 1980s. It’s a family-run and owned shop, started by a couple of Poms, Alan and Marilyn Lee, back in the day.
Why ‘Woodpecker’? Good question, I reckon.
“Well,” says Marilyn, “when we were in England we lived in Woodpecker Road. We tried to find a name that went with railways, like ‘Platform One’ and all that sort of thing, but they were all taken.” Woodpecker is certainly a name that stands out and so there we are.
