There’s a strong racing pedigree in the area. There are regular race series in all disciplines and the Paluma Push Marathon has clocked up an impressive 14 years (soon to be 15). Late last year, Townsville was awarded a two-year contract to host Australia’s National XCM (Cross-Country Marathon) Championships, and the local club, the Townsville Rockwheelers, have seized the opportunity, turning what would otherwise be a weekend of racing into a week-long festival of shredding, sightseeing, and events – the Townsville MTB Festival.
