IN A TUMULTUOUS first three months of 2020, motorcycle sales have remained surprisingly stable, with the off-road and ATV/SSV segments actually recording gains. Yamaha has taken over as the market leader, while smaller-capacity and less expensive models are underpinning bikes sales going forward.
“The market has been remarkably resilient given the circumstances,” says Tony Weber, the chief executive of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI). “The first three months of 2020 have seen many issues unfolding in the Australian market, with floods, drought, bushfires and, more recently the coronavirus pandemic.”
A 2.5 percent decline in overall motorcycle sales is a vast improvement on the 6.1 percent drop for the whole of last year.
