NINETEEN-FIFTY-EIGHT was also a landmark year for Australians in Europe. Several sailed together from Melbourne on the P&O liner Oronsay to London, where they were photographed for an English motorcycle newspaper. Jack Findlay, the least known of those on board, missed the picture.
Those in the shot were: Keith and Geraldine Campbell, Allen Burt, Jack Ahearn, Jack Walters, Richie Thomson, Barry Parsons (a helper to various riders) and Betty and Tom Phillis.
It was some group. A reigning world champion, a future champ embarking on his rookie season, and a future 500 GP winner.
But they were only part of the 1958 crew, with Bob Brown, Jack Forrest and brothers Harry Jnr and Eric Hinton.
