Patience is a virtue and 'Now Now' culture Getting a new model from a model manufacturer, can release an amount of dopamine for the modeller. This dopamine release can be from the satisfaction that the model meets expectations, in shape, colour and operation, and model manufacturers are happy to provide this in the form of regular releases of r-t-r models. When the delivery of r-t-r models is delayed, then modellers can go from ‘meh’ to ‘but why?’ quite quickly, almost like a drug addict not getting their fix. For manufacturers, constant communication can be a double-edged sword, they release information and timelines based on known, but sometimes incomplete information, this could be considered a calculated risk. The time I’ve had available for modelling over the past couple of years has been limited due to a house move, building of a new train room and being a joint owner-builder of a new house. So, what better time to start dabbling in a new prototype interest in the form of scratch building two Queensland Railways (QR) PB15 locomotives in 1:43.5 scale? I’m not sure why I made the decision to build these locomotives, but I am pretty certain when the actual decision was taken. I was visiting the home of my friend and fellow O-scale modeller Peter Krause and looking at the progress on his layout Saddlersfield, a semi-prototypical model of Tenterfield, the prototype of which is located near the Queensland border in NSW. Participants of the Oatley Modellers Group have been meeting for modelling sessions every second and fourth Sunday at Oatley for many years. The Group is informal and gives an opportunity to share ideas, stories and tips, and get a bit of modelling done. Although there is no set agenda, some of the themes covered more recently include rolling stock construction, lightweight baseboards, finishing 3D printed models and DCC sound. Recently we scheduled a workshop on making New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR) D wagons, from the master Computer Aided Design (CAD) file produced by myself. Auscision Models - N scale and HO scale Have confirmed the following projects in transit to Australia; the HO scale r-t-r South Australian and Victorian Railways Overland passenger coaches, and GT46C-ACe locomotives. Included with this shipment are new ‘Auscision Models crew’ figures, spare parts to re-stock the current inventory, and the balance of the State Rail Authority of New South Wales (SRA of NSW) XPT passenger sets models. Auscision have also received unpainted pilot models of their HO scale r-t-r XGAY, WGBY, WGSY and BGSY grain hopper wagons. Their factory is currently working on the painted pilot models which are expected to arrive soon. Once these have been checked they will go straight into production. The prototype In the late 1890s, new passenger coaches were introduced to take advantage of the O and P class locomotives that offered faster journeys without the need for as many intermediate stops. The latter became an issue for second class passengers who had to use station toilet facilities. Ritchie Bros built a new design to be known as Express Lavatory Coaches; more commonly known as ‘dog boxes’. It’s with profound sadness we advise the death of Roger Johnson who passed away on the 8th of June 2025. Roger was the son of a 1950s English emigrant, the family settling in the Rockhampton (Queensland) area. Roger met and married the love of his life, Carol, also a daughter of a 1950s English emigrant. They were together for 58 years, with Mark and (the late) Katherine their children. Roger joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as an apprentice and after qualifying as an airframe fitter, trained as a draughtsman. He met Carol on his first posting to Williamtown, and later served in Perth, Laverton and Edinburgh SA, where they eventually settled.
