The ones we share are truly stunning examples of houses that are not just special, architecturally, but are also filled with character and fantastic style. Wandering down the paved path to the stained-glass door of this beautiful cottage in Sydney’s north, it’s impossible not to become lost in a sense of history. When David and Sue bought their home more than a decade ago, they were thrilled that the property boasted a majestic European beech tree. Soaring higher than 25 metres, the deciduous tree’s striking purple foliage created incredible impact and its silvery branches played a part in many outdoor games when the couple’s children, Elise, 16, and Nick, 14, were little. How did you get into furniture making? I started with an apprenticeship in joinery, moved on to set building for film and TV, and then spent about six years with the Australian Museum before branching out on my own.
