By far, my favourite part of my job is meeting so many amazingly creative people. At the risk of sounding biased, I believe that Australians have a knack for invention that sets us apart from the rest of the world. Many of Home Beautiful’s pages feature products that are the result of a big leap of faith, made by people who are pursuing their dreams, taking risks and making unique pieces – sometimes with very little experience – and inspiring us all. I often say that a home is filled with stories – every piece of furniture, every artwork and every detail carries its unique history with it. NECESSITY HAS TRULY been the mother of invention for Sal Scarce and her furniture-maker husband, Tim, creators of bespoke furniture company Green Cathedral. One of the first pieces they collaborated on was a cute and clever pegboard, designed to contain clutter by their busy front door. In fact, the couple’s dynamic domestic partnership has driven some of the company’s key pieces: the bed they designed for their 12-year-old daughter, Bella, as well as a glow-in-the-dark one for her baby brother, Archie.
