This is the seventh album from this quartet of reflective, instrumental Texas post-rockers, and although it’s not intended as EITS’ last ever album, it starts from the concept of finality — be it the death or simply the end of a relationship. Yet it has about it a surging, affirmative energy and a defiance, as reflected in titles such as It’s Never Going To Stop. Opener Ten Billion People is teeming and, by EITS standards, tumultuous, triumphant even. In truth, it’s difficult to divine a distinctive theme on this album, inasmuch as EITS’ pieces tend to follow a familiar trajectory: opening ruminatively, such as the submarine depths, the darkening turquoise plumped on Loved Ones, for example, or the guitar whale song of The Fight before Chris Hrasky’s drums…
