David Wilson may not have invented the high-end speaker, but his designs did much to define the category Dave Wilson, the co-founder of Wilson Audio, arguably the world’s most famous loudspeaker manufacturer, died on Saturday May 26th , 2018, aged 73, after a long battle with a rare metastatic bone cancer.
David co-founded Wilson Audio Specialties in 1974 with his wife Sheryl Lee in Nova-to, Marin County, California. The two also co-founded Wilson Audiophile Definitive Recordings. Following the success of both ventures Dave and Sheryl Lee relocated to Provo, Utah, where they continued to build loudspeakers and make hi-fi recordings, and raise four children, one of whom (Daryl), was appointed President and CEO of Wilson Audio in November 2017.
