LOVE STORIES Trent Dalton, Fourth Estate, $34.99 When a mate's mother bequeathed Trent Dalton an Olivetti Studio 44 typewriter, the esteemed author and journalist was inspired to set up shop in the middle of Brisbane's CBD inviting passersby to tell him their love stories. The result is a magnificent, funny, poignant anthology of tales. Some with names changed for legal reasons, but true stories nonetheless. STANLEY REVISITED The article in the February/March 2023 issue titled “A breath of Fresh Air” brought back memories of an earlier time. The Angel's Share was formerly a bank with a residence behind it and, as a teenager my family and I lived there as my father was the bank manager. The only access to the top of The Nut was by foot. Mention of Hursey's crayfish reminded me of an incident when Dad came walking home from the wharf with a live crayfish on a rope. We all enjoyed the fresh produce available from the nearby farms and, of course, the fresh seafood. Stanley has certainly changed from the sleepy town of the 1960s to a bustling tourist destination.
