What Makes a Dragon?
In stories, dragons are as large as dinosaurs, with claws like eagles, tough scaly hides like alligators, spiky crests and tails like lizards, and wings like bats. In fact, many dragon parts are found in nature—just not all in a single animal.
Scaly Hide
Many dragon features are borrowed from lizards, alligators, and other reptiles. Their armor-like skin, for one. Tough alligator hide resists bites and cuts, heals quickly, and can even repel bullets.
Huge Size
Fairy Tale dragons are often huge—but so were dinosaurs. In fact, dinosaur bones found in rocks might have inspired the first dragon stories.
