VAN GOGH’S PALETTE
Van Gogh used large hog hair brushes and no medium. His palette included many of the new 19th-century colours so favoured by the Impressionists: Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine, Prussian Blue, Viridian Green, Chrome Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Vermilion and Ochre. These are the colours I have used here in the portrait of my son, applying the paint generously and directly with mostly large hog hair filberts and working at speed.
