Whilst a young pupil of PLC College in Adelaide, Bev Saxby won the annual art prize many times. She was eventually given the chance by her art teacher to paint glass slides, for projection in the theatres. At the age of 18, Bev won an art scholarship … but this went by the board after a while, as she had discovered boys! Consequently, marriage and babies were the order of the day (so to speak) for many years.
When Bev got back into painting in oils she was guided by well-known artist Ernst Redl from Vienna, who had attended the Vienna Academy. Ernst showed Bev new techniques such as how to do an undercoat, rather like the Old Masters.
