• Before contemplating any painting, do the ‘nesting dance’. Make your environment tidy and pleasant to work in. You may need to sweep the floor; burn incense; perhaps play inspiring music. Have a full belly, an empty bladder, and a cup of coffee and a sense of comfort and belonging about you – before you start.
• Days with the sun shining work best for me. Rainy days are for reading and clarifying concepts.
• Use a large mirror to inspect the reflected image from a critical point of view, and look for what may be missing or that which needs adjusting: Line, tone, repeat patterns, space, foreground etc. Basically, if it feels right and looks right, it is right. Or, if there is any doubt … leave it ……
