As an artist working primarily with cyanotype prints, I constantly explore the intersection of my innermost thoughts and feelings with the physical world around me. Photography and collage provide the perfect medium to symbolise the complexity of my internal voice, which is often touched by my daily experiences. In creating my pieces, I find inspiration in nature, dreams, and symbols of feminine spirituality. These references allow me to explore a language closely related to surrealism. Through my creative process, I seek to repair my inner world, using these blueprints as a means of introspection. I often turn poems into images, capturing raw emotions that come to me throughout the day. How do we assess the reality before us when it is beyond our comprehension? Throughout childhood into adulthood, I have been reminded of random flashbacks of imagery in my head, of the memories I questioned were mine. The scenes are vague but deeply embedded, causing me to live in the in-betweenness of these dream-like realities. Over time, uncertainty has escalated, becoming progressively overwhelming. I always questioned what is beyond what seems to be. Recently, my cousin accidentally revealed to me that I had leukaemia when I was little. When people remember something, they recognise the last time they remembered an event, not the actual event. The photographs are part of the Tell Me Whot I'm Remembering series. Chronic migraines are an invisible illness that can be incredibly debilitating, essentially wiping out several hours or days each time you get an attack. According to statistics, migraine affects more than 10% of people worldwide, occurs most often among people aged 20 to 50, and is about three times more common in women than men. My Migraine Calendar is a form of self-expression and a scream of pain. This project is an artwork about my personal experience with migraine headaches. I suffer from these types of headaches. My pain depends on the pressure changes in the air and usually peaks at the end of January until the beginning of March. For a long time, my life felt like one long string of layovers. I had an infinite curiosity about the world and was constantly on the move to explore it. For over ten years and across four continents, I have been enacting the motto: “If you can dream it, you can do it”. I went through a wondrous story where I neither knew all parameters nor the end. I was on the move but never seemed to arrive. Transition was my permanent condition. I was searching for something intangible. There was no beginning, middle or end - instead, I was always in motion. Carolle Bénitah The Jamais je ne t'oublierai (I will never forget you) series contains old black-andwhite photographs that depict anonymous people in various private situations. The portraits are blinded with gold leaf, rendering the unknown people even more mysterious. Who are they? When and where were the pictures taken? We do not know, and Carolle Bénitah does not have a clue because she obtained the old photographs from flea markets. “For me, it is like a sacrifice because the people had their own lives; they lived and loved, and one day, they disappeared, and suddenly, no one knows about them anymore.” Bénitah used gold leaf because it is a precious metal, making the unknown persons valuable and everlasting, despite their anonymity. “Gold is stainless metal. JP Terlizzi Most of the work of JP Terlizzi is about his family. In his practice, he explores memory, relationship, identity, legacy, and family themes. He interrogates how the past intersects with the present. For the project, Remembering Papa, he took a workshop on three-dimensional assemblages. “I had never done them before, so I was curious. I made an assemblage of my grandmother that resonated with me during that workshop. I brought it home and started thinking about my family history and the legacies left behind.
