JERALD MELBERG Gallery of Charlotte, N.C., opens “Reflection,” an exhibition of Raul Diaz’s painted wood panels and bronze and wood sculptures, on May 11. Diaz, an Argentine painter and sculptor, draws from memory and metaphor to create works that reflect on existence, struggle, and growth.
In this show, Diaz returns to a metaphor he has used in the past—the imagery of the boat to represent life’s ongoing relationships. In Apilados 4 (Blanca), a 2018 sculpture, simplified boat-liked forms are stacked atop each other in a long straight column, like a totem pole.
