Previewing upcoming art exhibitions from coast to coast, American Art Collector is a unique monthly magazine specially designed to bring living representational artists, galleries and active art collectors together in one place.
Welcome to our 200th issue! To give you some perspective, that means we have been writing about American contemporary fine art for 16 years, 6 months and 4 days. And counting. We should certainly mention that International Artist magazine, now in its 25th year, is the beginning of this publishing dynasty we’re so proud to have built. Creating a bridge between artists and collectors was the founding concept and inspiration of American Art Collector. The magazine’s success paved the way to launch three additional titles and a podcast channel, all sharing the same vision of bringing collectors and artists together. American Art Collector’s story would not be complete without mentioning its similarly inspired sibling publications by name: Western Art Collector, American Fine Art Magazine, Native American Art and our wildly…

Connecticut-based artist, Samuel Walter recently completed a new portrait, Britt’s Winter, as part of his ongoing series, Portraits of New Haven. Last year, Walter was awarded a 2nd place honor in the Portrait Society’s inaugural Future Generations Competition, which is dedicated to showcasing the work of young artists. Walter began his art education at an early age under the tutelage of John McCormick, a Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts graduate and close family friend. After studying art with McCormick from first through 12th grade, Walter went on to receive degrees in music from Haverford College and Yale University. “I’m extremely thankful for the rigorous and structured art training John gave me during those twelve years,” says the artist. “The endless value exercises and perspective studies were a bit tedious when…
International art, aimed at transporting spectators to faraway lands to experience the delights of foreign cultures, forms the basis of Wonderful World, the theme for this year’s production of Pageant of the Masters, one of the highlights of Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach since its inception in the 1930s. On each evening of Festival of Arts, which runs July 7 to September 2, attendees can witness 90 minutes of “living pictures”—real people creating life-size replications of classical and contemporary works of art within the context of a larger theatrical production. Works brought to life include those by Swedish painter Carl Larsson, Italian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, French artist Jean Béraud, Edvard Eriksen from Denmark, Japanese woodblock artist Toyohara Chikanobu, and many more. Performed in an outdoor amphitheater, the event…
Echoes of Nature is an exhibit by Chinese and Chinese-American artists curated by Dr. Aihua Zhou Pearce that runs through July 30 at Studio Channel Islands gallery in Camarillo, California. The show, arranged in a spacious gallery that is something of a hidden secret in Ventura County, is a significant cultural event in the too-often overlooked story of Chinese immigration to the United States. The Pew Research Center calculates the United States is home to 5.5 million Chinese-Americans, whose families have prospered and become enthusiastic participants in the pursuit of the American Dream. Today, Chinese-Americans are typecast as nice, hardworking people, but are also ignored and treated with contempt, part of a long and shameful history of racist cruelty dating back to the 19th century. Exhibits of Chinese-American art are…
