To go with the X-T30 III, Fujifilm has introduced a new kit zoom, the XC 13-33mm F3.5-6.3 OIS. This offers an unusually wideangle range that’s equivalent to 20-50mm in full-frame terms, with the trade-off lying with its rather short telephoto end. This is Fujifilm’s first lens to combine a compact retracting design with a mechanical zoom mechanism. The latter counts as a welcome change over the firm’s older XC 15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ, whose powerzoom control can be frustrating when trying to achieve precise composition. Rene Matic is among the shortlisted photographers for this year’s Deutsche Borse Photography Foundation Prize. Other shortlisted artists include Jane Evelyn Atwood, Weronika Gesicka, Amak Mahmoodian. ‘The shortlist features an exciting range of practices, including collaborative photographic projects; long-term investigative documentary photography; installations, video and sound pieces; and experimental conceptual work,’ said the organisers. As a nation, we love cats. There are around 11 million pet cats in the UK and there’s at least one in almost a quarter of all households. Cat videos are a perennial favourite on social media channels. Yet the cats themselves are largely indifferent to us and generally do as they please. They are perhaps the most difficult domestic species to photograph. Undaunted, Tim Flach has chosen them as the subject for his latest monograph. Three months after its launch, the Sony FX2 continues to be a topic of heated debate among photographers and videographers. Tamron has announced the launch of its 25-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD G2 zoom for full-frame Sony E-mount. This redesigned lens builds on the success of the 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD, and has been developed to celebrate Tamron’s 75th anniversary. With the 25-200mm, Tamron introduces a wider 25mm wideangle range compared to the previous 28mm version, while maintaining the relatively fast f/2.8 maximum aperture. The Tamron 25-200mm also now includes the VXD linear motor for faster and more precise autofocus. Weighing only 340g, this is Viltrox’s smallest and lightest full-frame 85mm lens. Other noteworthy features include 10 lens elements in 8 groups, with resolution peaking between f/4 and f/5.6, according to Viltrox.
