The Pixii Max, a 24.5MP full-frame digital rangefinder compatible with Leica M-mount lenses, has been launched by French company Pixii. The company claims the new sensor delivers ‘exceptional dynamic range surpassing even its top-ranked predecessors. Photographers will appreciate the familiar feel of the 24×36 sensor paired with their rangefinder lenses of choice.’ The new camera is based on a 64-bit platform to boost performance and facilitate updates, and also features a new optical viewfinder with high-index optical glass and multi-coated anti-reflective surfaces. The Pixii Max is capable of producing native monochrome files, too. Lomography has announced a limited-edition new film, the LomoChrome Color ’92 Sun-kissed. It’s an ISO 400 colour film that has been designed to capture ‘the essence of a golden-hour glow with warm orange and yellow hues,’ says the company, and it can be developed using standard C-41 processing. VALERY POSHTAROV Holding hands is an expression of closeness, unity and affection. According to scientists, squeezing a loved one’s palm can help to reduce blood pressure, pain and stress. So why, then, do so many men seem to have a problem holding their father’s hand? Tech Talk The new Nikon Z6III includes an innovative sensor, which is, according to the manufacturer, ‘partially stacked’. The purpose of this article is to explain some of the details of this technology and the differences between it and the ‘fully stacked’ variety. Both sensor types are a variety of the class of component called 3D ICs (Three-dimensional integrated circuits). Threedimensional ICs may be manufactured using a wafer-to-wafer method, whereby complete wafers are stacked together to make the complete 3D circuits before they are separated into dice, each one stacked. Alternatively they might use a die-to-wafer method, in which already separated dice are placed on a wafer, before the wafer is separated into individual dice, each consisting of a die with sub-dice on top. Photo Critique This image hangs on the wall of my home. Each time I view it I have to remind myself it was taken in 2002. From a glimpse it would be easy to attribute it to the 1980s, when Tish Murtha, a working-class photographer from the north-east of England was documenting inequality in Britain. From a squint it could be taken in the 1970s when Heidi Alexander was producing striking images from Stockport market. Or in the 1960s, when social documentary photographer Shirley Baker’s humanist vision captured the inner-city working class. A ‘new’ Panasonic camera has been released, the Lumix FZ82D. It is a relatively light update of the seven-year-old Lumix FZ82 bridge camera, keeping the 18MP sensor and 60x integral zoom lens (20-1200mm equivalent), but gaining a USB-C socket for easier charging and a new electronic viewfinder, which doubles the resolution of the original (now 2,360k-dot).
