The shortlist for the Royal Observatory’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year 13 competition has been announced, with the winners set to be revealed on 16 September. Some stand-out images made the cut, including one taken during lockdown that depicts the moon’s trajectory over the roofs of Paris, sunrise on a heavily polluted morning in Shanghai and the Milky Way looming over lavender fields in Valensole, France.
The competition received over 4,500 entries from amateurs and professional photographers, coming from 75 countries. Judges include the comedian and keen amateur astronomer, Jon Culshaw, along with other luminaries from the worlds of art and astronomy. The winning images will be displayed at an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum from Saturday 18 September, alongside a selection of shortlisted images. See rmg.co.uk/shortlist.…
