These days, with plants being transported across the globe – hydrangeas from Japan, fuchsias and begonias from South America, hebes from New Zealand, and so on – it is rather nice to think that you can have a fantastic selection of plants in your garden that come from, yes, the UK!
Take the shrubby potentilla, for example. It grows naturally in the northeast of England, so you can tell straight away that it’s as hardy as anything. Although there are some 500 species of potentilla, some of which are perennials of varying habit, I prefer, and am in awe of, Potentilla fruticosa and its cultivars.
