Large-flowered clematis
The large-flowered summer clematis have single flowers up to about 9in (23cm) across, sometimes even more, although flowers are often fewer in number than those of other types. Try ‘Perle d’Azur’ (sky blue), pictured, and ‘Jon Huxtable’ (white).
Viticella clematis
These have smaller flowers, rarely more than 3in (7.5cm) across, but often in huge numbers. They tend to face partially down and are attractive when grown through a large shrub or small tree. Try ‘Polish Spirit’ (dark purple-blue), pictured, and ‘Minuet’ (white with purple veins).
Texensis clematis
