IF you own a cat, it may have brought you an occasional ‘gift’ of a mouse, shrew, vole, or perhaps something bigger. However, when it comes to preying on small rodents, even the best feline ‘mouser’ can’t get anywhere close to being as proficient as the owl.
With their sharp, hooked bills and strong, arched claws, owls make light work of their prey. They also have superb hearing (being able to discern a mouse’s movements from many yards away) and, most sinister of all, they can fly and swoop in absolute silence.
