THE first thing to say about Flora is that the photography is amazing. There are some incredible close-up images depicting fern spores, what goes on inside stems, cross-sections of buds, seeds, leaf structures and storage stems, to name just a few.
This book covers many topics, such as what is a plant, why leaves change colour, what happens inside plant stems and how plants are pollinated, in a clear and concise way. If you’re looking for in-depth scientific explanations of these subjects, though, you’ll be disappointed, because the information is basic. This is an introduction to botany, but the photographs make everything seem so interesting that you can’t resist reading about each subject.
