THERE’S a weed-ridden corner of the garden that I’ve been meaning to sort out for ages, and a long holiday weekend would be the ideal time to do so.
We don’t want the garden to be too tidy as we want to attract in as much wildlife as possible, but this corner is a complete eyesore and contains a young ‘Bramley’ apple, which always looks rather beleaguered, surrounded by perennial weeds and couch grass.
So, to work! If you are clearing a similar corner you will need robust footwear, layers of clothing that can be stripped off as you warm up, a good spade, several metres of weed-suppressing fabric, and either topsoil, compost or mulch to go on top.
