ANYONE lucky enough to own a glasshouse will be pre-programmed to fill it with tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, aubergines, peppers and more come the summer months. But what about winter? Can we use it then? Of course!
Instead of treating it as a storage area for pots, trays and compost (admit it – we all do that!), why not sow some quick-growing hardy crops to supply you with tender pickings all winter long? The likes of rocket, mizuna, komatsuna, mustard, turnip tops, pea shoots, spinach and chard will all rapidly germinate on warm autumnal days.
Just sow them straight into the greenhouse border or, if things have already chilled down a tad, sow them into modules in a propagator, ready to transplant out into the greenhouse border or growing bags in…
